Today I completed Exercise 2 of Thing 8: Wikis. I went to the Public Services Wiki and edited the LLRef Journal.

Today I began working on Thing 8: Wikis. First I viewed the video tutorial. Then I completed Exercise 1. I spent time browsing Wikipedia, WikiNews, and the 1911 Encyclopedia. I found things of interest in all of them.

I copied the URL for the website I found on the Caldecott Medal winners from 1938 to the present and posted it to my del.icio.us account. Earlier, while reading my e-mail, I had added the CDL press release on the launching of the Next-Generation Melvyl Catalog to my del.icio.us account. I filled out the description and tag fields for both of these postings.

Then I checked out the YALSA and Osceola Library System del.icio.us sites.

Finally, I explored the CiteULike site.

I'm considering posting websites to my del.icio.us account, instead of printing out the e-mail messages I get about them.

After I wrote yesterday's post, I discovered that I had received an e-mail from del.icio.us, informing me that I was registered with them. I submitted a workticket to IT, asking them to install a del.icio.us button and Skype. Brandon installed both of them this morning.

Problem with Thing 7

I tried to set up a del.icio.us account and got the message that the installation couldn't continue, because the installer had insufficient priveleges to access this directory: C:\Program Files\del.icio.us. I sent a workticket to IT to install a del.icio.us button on my browser.

Yesterday I began working on Thing 7: Social Bookmarking and Folksonomies. I viewed the tutorial about del.icio.us. Then I searched del.icio.us for the keyword "library". I found something of interest to me: a list of the Caldecott Medal winners from 1938 to the present.

I confirmed my friendship with Jessica, Antoinette and several other colleagues who wanted to be added to my list of friends. I viewed everyone's profile. I joined the UCI Libraries group. I wrote on Jessica's wall. I added the Antpac application. Finally, I added the "Compare People" application and then removed it.

I joined Facebook and created a profile. I searched for a friend and found Jessica Brobst. When I looked at her friends, I found Antoinette Avila. I added both of them as friends and am waiting for their confirmations.

I'm working on Thing 5: RSS & Newsreaders. I subscribed to the Los Angeles Times News blog and created an alert on LISTA. Next time, I'll subscribe to a second blog.

I was never able to retrieve any of my blog postings through pinging, so I'm giving up and moving on to Thing 5. I did, however, create a tag for my last post.

I found this photo by searching for the word "library" in Everyone's Photos in Flickr. I chose the photo of the Chicago Public Library, because I love Chicago and the architecture of the older buildings there.

Flickr could be used in libraries as a visual aid in instruction. It could be used in academic research as a source of illustrations.

Now I'm done with Thing 3.

I searched Technorati, BlogScope, Sphere, and Blog.Ask.com for "James Madison College", my alma mater at Michigan State University. I got the fewest results (1) from Sphere (which connects blogs and news), but I found the article there the most interesting.
